Manusmruti or Manava-DharmaShastra: This is said to be the best and most authoritative of the books of the Hindu law code (Dharma-Shastra). It is attributed to the first man – Swayambhuva Manu, the son of Brahaman and is compiled by Bhrigu, one of the ten Prajapatis or the lords of beings. Keeping its original Sanskrit text, this is a translation in Marathi. It prescribes Dharma or duty of each Hindu, stating obligations attached to his or her social class and stage of life. It deals with cosmology, sacred and purificatory rites and other religious topics along with marriage, hospitality, dietary restrictions, the conduct of women, and the law of kings, and Ultimate Philosophy of Life. About the Author / Translator: Vishwas Tamhankar had worked in a renowned corporate sector for 12 years. He established and run his own educational coaching institute for 32 years and taught English, Maths, Science and Sanskrit as many years. With his profound experience in the educational field, he has decided to spend his retired life in translating Sanskrit books.
